The Old Matelot

matelot;
noun,
sailor; from the French mat-el-oh (plural matelots)
A slang expression, chiefly in Britain, may also mean mate or companion.

Welcome to the Old Matelots' blog, my first (and probably last!) journalistic endeavour. Watch its development and evolution as I make the transition into retirement and the live-aboard, off the grid lifestyle on the sailing yacht, Circe. Follow my fortunes (and misfortunes) in the posts as I work to rehabilitate my home on the water.

UPDATE - Due major back-to-back relationship and health issues during 2017 & 2018 I was involuntarily beached and forced to let Circe go. The blog will remain up for the foreseeable future for informational benefit to other owners of these magnificent boats.

Admiral's Photo Library

When we first moved into Marina Bay Yacht Harbor we started walking the docks to check out the boats, the neighbors and learn 'who was who in the zoo'. While we were wandering around, the Admiral started taking some photographs of our 'hood. She did a great job and we thought they would be good to post.

The link below gives some general views of  the Marina, courtesy of MBYH web page.

Our Pictures are Below:

First Group:
Tradewinds sailing club and school located at the head of our dock, a really great bunch of folk. They have a fleet of over 30 sailboats, school-owned and member leased. They are also our 'drop ship' address for packages and parcels.

Second Group:
The approach to our slip on D Dock......we've never lived in a 'gated community' before!

Third Group:
Secure card lock parking with CCTV surveillance for us lucky live-aboard tenants.

Fourth Group:
Some general views around the marina.

Fifth Group:
Some shots taken from our patio, aka the cockpit!

Sixth Group:
Here are a few of our feathered neighbours, both resident and transient! We have an amazing variety of seabirds right here in the marina and we enjoy watching them and their antics.

Seventh Group:
We get some fantastic sunsets here on the E. Bay. Below are some shots taken from the cockpit and nearby finger piers.

Eighth Group:
Here are some interesting cloud formations and views of the marine layer which comes in every evening in the summer months.

Ninth Group:
We see interesting water craft around the marina.  Some are small and some are just different.  Then some are what we call BBM's (Big Black & Metal)  and we give them lots of room when sailing.

Tenth Group:  Sometimes when you look up, you see some interesting objects flying over the marina.
